In the course of my career, first studying animal behaviour in remote corners of the world, then as a science journalist and entrepreneur, I’ve taken a lot of risks, but in spite of various setbacks and worries they’ve definitely proved worth taking. In this inspirational and motivational talk, I show why it benefited ancestral women to be risk averse, but how in our modern world the threats are minimal although we still retain the fear.

Through recounting my fieldwork adventures, I’ll demonstrate how we can learn to feel good about taking calculated risks in pursuit of our ambitions, and also how we women can take full advantage of our natural “risk awareness”.
